What's a good sailboat for a beginner with shallow water to contend with?

New to sailing and considering buying a boat perhaps in the 20-26ft range. Will likely need something with a centerboard and have read good things about the Macgregor boats. Also saw an S-2 6.7. Any advice?|||Depends on where you live and what you intend to do with the boat. Find a local sailing club and snoop around their docks or trailer lots and ask the locals about their boats. Go to more than one sailing or boating club. Sailing schools can also be of some help.|||the best thing to do is to look at the sailboats that are popular in the area where you will be sailing.

there are many good sailboats in your size range including san juan 21 and 23, catalina 22, 25, oday mariner, oday 20, 22, santana 21, ranger 20 (kent wa), s-2 boats.

now is a good time to be looking at used sailboats because of the depressed pricing on these boats.

check out your local craigs list.

since you will be sailing in shallow waters, try to find a boat with a good depth sounder on board

hope this helps
