A little help with my book problem?

I'm looking for a book called Darkness within by Kinley Macgregor/ Sherrilyn Kenyon but I can't find it anywhere. 4shared doesn't have it and when I went to town the other day and asked for it at waterstones and whsmiths they said that they didn't have it either. What is the difference between a print and an orginal painting? how much more is the painting worth?

Robert Macgregor's "The Cutty Stark"|||A print is a copy of a painting, and there are many types of prints. A print that is just a poster isn't very valuable. A print that is signed properly by the artist is worth more. (The title, edition number, artist's signature and date need to be listed in pencil.) The original painting will be worth the most.

An artist I know sells her paintings for about $300, but her prints are only $30. They are a lot smaller and there are many copies, but prints are nice to own if you don't have the money for the original.|||A print is basically a photo of a picture or painting printed out by means of a copy machine or printer. An original painting is one that the artist painted themselves. you can easily tell the difference. One is paint on canvas, the other is a photograph of paint on canvas. Of course, the original painting is always worth more than just a print. I cannot tell you how much though. It depends on how old the painting is, and who painted it.|||Basically print is sometimes a misused or confused term. Originally, back then when no mass production machines making copies, a print means anything that's created by an artist who made use different methods to make images on a plate and then print how many copies from the plate. Generally, lithograph, etching, intaglio etching, relief, engraving, and etc.... are all printing methods. The printed images on paper are therefore called prints.

However, nowadays, you can call a copying machine's print out call a print too. A photograph is a print too, for anything that can be made more than once. Prints themselves are not created directly on papers but through a machine, plate, or some other kind of medium to transfer the image.

An original painting is painted directly on a piece of paper or a canvas, which by no means can be transferred or made more copies of it.|||A original by this artist can worth up to 15 000$US but for a print it doesn't worth anything at auction. there's not a lot of artist that prints worth something.

Husband left me golf clubs and need some idea of there worth?

The set is irons numbered 2 to 9 by MacGregor. They say Doctorx, system 4 , high modulus graphite., with a gold bag. My late husband barely used them and I have zero idea how much to sell them for. I live in Puerto vallarta Mexico.|||Hi there,

I'd get on eBay and do a search with MacGregor - - and the additional information you've shown. Most likely, from my experience anyway, a seller site will open and you can keep on looking for the exact Doctorx system irons you have.

In the event nothing shows up right at the moment, don't give up your search there; new stuff is added all the time.

If nothing shows up, you can also try eBay's "WANT IT NOW" feature. When someone approaches you, they ought to be giving you their price for new or used irons.

Search the gold bag by maker-- separately unless above says it's included in his price.

You are never obliged to buy what you've asked for.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Do you like living in Mexico? Chances are because of their age they would be likely to become damaged through play. The clubs do not have much real monetary value but have sentimental value only. To put a sale price on them they would probably sell for about $5 each. Treat them nicely they served a golfer well at one time.

Can anyone help me out with my golf drive?

I currently use a macgregor driver with stiff flex and a 9.5 degree loft. most of my drives are either slices that hit the woods to the right or i pull it way to the left. Any suggestions on what im doing wrong/ if i should change flex or loft? (16 years old, righty, 6 feet/ 150 lbs, drive 265-285 yards)|||Your flex is ok if you swing around 95-110 mph which based on your size, age and distance you probably do. Since you are pulling and slicing you are probably casting the club outside-in.

Start by flexing your knees and keeping them flexed through the entire swing to keep your body in-line. Shorten your backswing to stay avoid overturning your arms. In your swing, your shoulders must turn on a plane that points at the ball, not level... Try to hit the inside 1/4 of the back of the ball and focus on a high finish to get to an in-out-in swing path.|||take a slow swing. Think mentally about the swing. If it goes left the clubface is shut and your going to far inside. If its going right at impact the clubface is open and your swing is too up and down. also try closing your clubface slightly to get rid of going to the right. going left is always better than right for a righthanded golfer.|||It sounds like your are relying on timing, rather than turning. You could try keeping a golf glove or towel under your forward-side arm pit. This will help you to turn your body, not just your arms, which makes your margin for error much smaller. Good luck.|||You cant really help much without seeing your swing in person, but lining the ball up with your left foot which means scooting back on the ball a little.

I'm looking for an intermediate player that's pretty forgiving.|||no pros/cons just fit for you or not.|||I play the Cobra S9-1 3 Wood and 7 Wood and I love them. I am a 10 hadicap and they are easy to hit. They explode off the face and easy to make good contact with them. I have noticed that even when I swing 110% with them they only go maybe 10 yards further then if I swing 95%. I was at the PGA Superstore for about 3 hours when I was looking for woods and tried everything possible.. S9-1 was the way to go for me..|||Certain golf manufacturers rent patents from highly rated golf clubs with highly recognized brands.

I went to a mom and pop driving range and was custom fitted with some Tommy Armor 7s that are identical to their brand name counterparts. I swear to God dude, these clubs hit and feel exactly like the 1000 dollar set. .. and I only paid 400 bucks for a full set of irons and 3 custom fitted woods!!

Granted, I got real lucky that I found a real good pro golf club maker that really knows what he is doing.|||How about TM burner superfast driver. Spec as follows:

Weighing only 284 grams, Burner SuperFast is the lightest, fastest driver TaylorMade has created. Designed to 颅deliver increased clubhead speed and superior distance, the SuperFast also possesses the largest clubface of any TaylorMade driver 鈥?14% larger than the 2009 Burner. "The larger face gives you more area to strike the ball with, which is a distinct advantage," says Todd Beach, TaylorMade senior director of metalwood development. The face features a new bulge and roll design that works with the higher moment-of-inertia head to maximize off-center hits.

Which is your favorite Nora Roberts book?

My favorite is a toss up between Genuine Lies and the MacGregor books.|||I haven't read all of her books, but I do enjoy romantic suspense novels. Her two-book D.C. Detectives series (Sacred Sins and Brazen Virtue) were good as was Montana Sky and Hidden Riches. For those without real mystery, I did like the Concannon Sisters trilogy (Born in Fire, Born in Ice, Born in Shame).

I admit her various family series books (MacGregors, McKade, Stanislaski, Calhoun) used to be "guilty pleasure" reading for me. The stories are generally interesting and make for a nice escape from present problems. :)

In case you are interested, this site http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/r/nora鈥?/a> has a list of her books, including which book is a part of which series.|||Both books you mentioned are excellent. Genuine Lies is such a twisted, heart-wrenching tale! And when I first read the MacGregors stories I used to wish Daniel was my grandpa!

My absolute favorite is Birthright. I've always loved archeology %26amp; related fields, and I was adopted, so that book really hit me on 2 levels.

Other books that are in my top 10 are Carolina Moon, River's End %26amp; Northern Lights.

If I replaced my driver could my distance increase?

Im 15 years old and I just started golf this year and im pretty good. I shoot 93 consistantly. I am using my dads 12 year old macgregor driver. the driver doesnt have a big head like the ones they have now! I hit my driver 200 yards. If I replaced my driver with a new one with a big head would it increase my distance?|||Probably not. The reason you're not getting enough distance is your swing and your strength.|||A more modern driver would help some but it isn't going to turn you into someone you're not. A modern driver will be much more forgiving and thus longer and more accurate on your off center hits. But certainly don't expect to immediately drop a bunch of strokes off your game.|||I recently replaced my old macgregor driver with a new one. My accuracy and confidence went way up. A good drive with my old driver was 200 yards at best. With my new Taylormade burner, I have drived short par 4s of 300 yards on occation. (That is a rare hit but still possible.)

I would say my drives increased by 40-50 yards on the average hit. I am still learning alot but I would credit this club with 4-5 strokes in 9 holes.|||Yes there have been major advances in the way drivers are designed and manufactured over the last decade. A newer driver will definitely increase your distance if you hit it just as well.|||im 15 aswell :) ive played golf 4 bout 10 years now an yehh it definately can if u bought a driver with a lower face degree, (like 9.5 - 10 .5 degrees) and if u bought a modern driver with a 460cc size head then yeh ull be able to hit it alot further, and straighter|||Hello,

It would help your distance through technology.

I encourage and will help young folks the best i can to promote golf. You need to get your parents involved to contact me to help.

yes, a new driver will improve your distance. make sure that you have a nice, fluid swing and good mechanics. those need to be in order before buying a new driver.

Whats the difference between a Venture 23' sailboat and a Venture Newport 23' sailboat, if there is any?

I have a MacGregor Venture 23' sailboat that I think was manufactured in 1974. I have been looking at Venture 23's online and I've noticed that some of the sites say Venture 23 and some say Newport Venture 23. The Newports look more "Salty" Have slightly more headroom. The Ventures are a newer design and most are or were raced. With various mast adjustment accessories these Ventures can actually plane , which means go faster than the hull speed . The Newports do not plane and are limited to hull speed . Can one cross the Atlantic ocean on a Macgregor 26 sailboat?

If so, what would be the best route to take so to reduce the longest continues stretch of open water? Is that the best strategy? How long will it take? Is going West to East, East to West requires different routes? When is the best time to do it? Is a boat of that type likely to sink/break from the sea forces alone or only by striking a solid object? Is it conceivable to evade developing bad weather by simply motoring/sailing away in another direction? Can one weather out a storm by lowering sails and tying down everything on deck, then taking a snooze until its over, assuming you are in the middle of the ocean and aren't likely to strike anything? What would be the most affordable sailboat that you would recommend for such a journey if this one isn't ideal? I've read somewhere that smaller boats are actually stronger than larger boats and that the larger boat mentality is propagated by the boating industry to make more money, is that true? Any other information would be appreciated.|||The rig and keel design of the Mac 26 are not intended to endure the conditions in the open ocean. The boat is good at what it is designed for ... motoring and sailing in protected and inland waters. You might make major modifications to strengthen the boat ... but you would better off putting the money into a Flicka or similar boat if you want to make a crossing in a boat of that size.|||Goo lord no, the only way I'd ever think about crossing any substantial body of water in a Mac26 is if I had a deathwish and wanted to be buried at sea. They are crappy daysailers and short-distance cruisers, and really not even all that good at those things. DO NOT DO THIS.

|||No No NO. MacGregors are smooh water floating caravans. It is probably possible but do so at your own risk.|||your looking for way to much info from a site like this. there are magazines and forums dedicated to those endeavors|||You are asking for a lot of information here. For sure you need to seek advice of seasoned sailors, people who have done blue water sailing in small boats.

You could cross the Atlantic in a Macgregor 26 - people have crossed the Atlantic in dories and other types of rowboats, so it is possible. If you were very lucky, the crossing might even be relatively uneventful, though that is unlikely. We did blue water sailing in an Ericson 35, a much heavier and stronger boat than a Macgregor.

In going west to east many people use the Azores as the first stop - you avoid the more northerly part of the north Atlantic, which is unpredictable at the best of times. You want to avoid hurricane season and mid-winter, so spring seems to be the time to start out.

In terms of riding out a storm, we hove to and rode out weather, but we kept watch. You may not find that it is possible to take a snooze until it is over. There will probably be all kinds of things that need attention, and you do not want to get run over by a bigger boat.

Go to sailnet.com and begin communicating with people there. They will be able to help you with these questions, and many others that will come up as you explore this topic. Best of luck with your plans.|||I could not possibly even think of a worst cantidate for an oceanic crossing. However, you would make an excellent cantidate for the Darwin Awards. Anyone who so much as buys a Mac 26 deserves whats coming to them, let alone trying to do something incredibly stupid. If you do go, make sure to power the whole way, if you go at 15 knots, you will get there faster so it will certainly be safer. You might have to carry alot of fuel, but you can dedicate the water tank to gasoline if need be (its only a few days... who needs water?) Your worst problem would be if you had to beat to weather to get to one ocean or another, you would likely just wallow sideways and end up blown onto one continent or another- kinda like Columbus... Next time the question comes up, what would Columbus sail, be sure to respond "a Mac 26"|||No. The Macgregor 26 would be perhaps the worst choice for crossing an ocean.|||I have a friend who crossed the Atlantic in a 14' boat. That's a bit too small for me.

If you want to cross an ocean in a small boat it has to be a well made boat. A MacGregor is not very well made, or very strong.

There is a race called the mini-transat in which people race 21' boats across the Atlantic. The boats are built specially for that purpose but even some of them don't make it.

Try starting out by getting positions as crew on other peoples boats. You get the same adventure, see the same places but don't have the cost or the worry.

You will go further, learn more, and have more fun as crew on a well run boat.

My grandfather gave me this set not too long ago and told me I might get some money for them. He claims they are from 1956, according to the previous owner he got them from. If your interested in buying them we might be able to arrange something. Where can I sell them? I saw the same clubs on Ebay with no bids.

The set includes a driver, 2-3 woods, and 1-10 irons. Everything on the clubs are original. They have never been re-gripped or have had the shafts shortened. The driver and woods are in pretty decent condition but the irons are in great condition!

Will Kinley MacGregor write another book about the Lords of Avalon?

It has been several years since the last book of the Lords of Avalon came out on the book shelf. I have been anxiously waiting for another book on The Lords of Avalon for quite some time. I have noticed that she has come out with several new vampire books under her other name of Sherrilyn Kenyon but I really would like to read another episode of the Avalon series with the dragons, gargoyles, and the sorceress. Has anyone heard anything about another book in this series coming out soon? The other two books of the series was Knight of Darkness and Sword of Darkness.

Is a Macgregor Finesse Lite 2 or an XIX Ladies Golf set a good buy?

I plan to learn golf here in Ho Chi Minh City and found the above brand new golf sets selling for US$510 and $420, respectively. Both have 12 clubs (1 driver @ but shaft of XIX is abt. 2 inches longer, head of XIX is larger and heavier) , wood 4%26amp;7 for XIX, wood 3%26amp;5 for Macgreg ,irons 5-9 , sand wedge, pitching wedge, rescue wedge (Macgreg), approach wedge(XIX), putter. XIX is supposedly a Singaporean brand. Both are made in China and have graphite shafts. The Macgreg is lighter. Have tried both in the shop and the Macgreg seems to be easier to handle. Are these good brands and models? My height is 5' 2 1/2" so I'll have to check if the shop has the standard shaft length for either brand.|||Great ladies set|||Yep. it sure is.

My cat, Macgregor...?

Gathers all his toys and puts them in his food bowl. Hahah. It's a wonder how he even has enough room to eat. I don't know if he thinks theyr his children or friends and they need to be fed or what. Ive had him for almost 5 years, and he started this about two years ago.

Butttt now he just recently started putting the SAME little mouse toy in his water bowl. Its disgusting. It's a soggy wet rat. I have to take the mouse out to dry, and it takes about 3 days, and as soon as I give the mouse back to him, he puts the poor toy back in there. Hahah, it's adorable. Have you ever heard of this!?!|||my youngest cat LOVES to soak his catching mouse, by any chance, are the toys that your cat soaks- do they have cat nip in them? we figured that the cat only liked to soak the cat nip mouse, maybe for basting purposes I don't know. I wouldn't worry, its a harmless yet very disgusting habit, my cat doesn't do it as much now, maybe switching from a cat nip toy to a crinkle ball?|||Cats do that, and why, I don't really know. I have three, so just imagine all the toys that wind up in the feed and water bowls in my house.. ;)

I'd say it's perfectly normal, and most likely an instinct they have. Toys = caught food; food bowl = place for food. Perhaps in a cat's eyes, it's a perfect match.|||There are four reasons that your cat might do this. One, he is treating his toys as prey and therefore is putting them with the rest of his food. Or two, that he doesn't want to lose his toys and he knows where his food dish is. Or three, your cat just ends up dropping them in the food dish when he goes to eat. And four, your cat thinks the two of you are playing a game (especially since you take the toys out it could seem like this). Good luck!

Vintage baseball bat. What is it? How much does it cost?

I found an old wooden bat. It is a macgregor goldsmith no.100. The bat is 36 inches long. It also says semi pro cronin model, who im assuming is joe cronin. What do you think its worth and when was it made. Thanks.|||McGregor bats were made in the 1930's and 1940's. If yours is autographed by a famous player, it is probably worth over $ 1,000.

If not, it is an interesting keepsake and some bat fan might pay $ 10.00 for it.

Is Murray deliberately bidding for expensive players to fool the faithful?

So rangers put in a bid of 拢5 million for Faubert, but are told to beat it by Bordeaux. If Rangers had this money to spend, why is Scott Brown and Cuellar not at Ibrox, why was the best reserve goalie for MacGregor they could find, the Killie reserve goalie and why are they haggling over a 拢 1.5 million fee for Naismith? Could it be that Murray doesn`t actually have the cash and is bidding for players he knows he won`t get, but is hoping the publicity will help to sell tickets for the preseason friendlies and the European game at the end of July?|||Lets be honest, you can see some of the faithful on Answers anyday of the week. I was given an old MacGregor Tourney IMG-5 putter..what's it worth?

On the bottom it reads IMG-5 Iron Master..thanks..|||For many of the 1940-1980 collectable clubs the value has dropped since the technology has improved so much in the current clubs. Wedges and putters from this era have retained some of their value but it looks as if those are dropping off. Go to Ebay and do a seach for "Iron master putter" and you will see 5-7 putters that are similar to the one you describe. The bettter condition the more value.

Hope this helps.|||Putt with it and see if it's worth a birdie. If so you found it's worth. Putters lose value so fast I wouldn't assume it's worth more than 5 bucks. Try it though and see if its the missing peice to your game.

Any advice for a golfer new to Forged irons?

I am a decent golfer, and my handicap is around 12, and i am a consistant ball striker with little or no draw or fade to the ball. Recently, i decided to trade in my Callaway X-14, for Callaway X-Forged. And they seem fairly forgiving for blades, because i have tried Mizuno Mp-32, and 33, MacGregor blades aswell.

Any advice on other clubs to try? How to take care of the forged irons? do they bend easily if i were to hit one fat on dry fairways?|||forged clubs are really good clubs. when you play in the rain make sure you take them out of the bag. try not to hit it in gravel they scratch easily. if you play 2 to 3 a week have the lie and loft checked every 5 months. specially your most used club. i use mp33|||I've played forged irons for 6 of the 8 years I've been playing golf. I won't play a cast iron anymore. The feel is so soft and pure. Care for the clubs isn't any different than any other clubs. They will hold up just fine under any circumstance. I've played Nike Forged Pro Combos for the past 4 years and they've held up under all kinds of shots I've hit. Other clubs to try are the Mizuno MP-57(full cavity forged iron) or Mizuno MP-60.|||I've used blades on and off for the last 12 years. Even though they have a softer feel, they do not bend or break any easier than cavities. I just find them awsome to use. I had a set of Mizuno TZoid Trues, and set of Bridgestone and a couple of other sets (Spalding Tour Edition) over the years.

I like the look of the Titleist blades (690 mb) myself, or even the Snake Eyes (I use the wedges)|||The Callaway X Forged is probably the most forgiving forged club in golf. I played Mizuno MP 33 for 2 seasons and found them to be easy to hit.

Rob Roy movie - did Archibald Cunningham really fight Robert Roy MacGregor?

was there even really an Archibald Cunningham during Robert Roy MacGregors life ?

or was he mere fiction added to a movie ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHCvV8uUr鈥?/a>|||According to the following paragraph the character of Archibald Cunningham

was not based on a real person.

Historical accuracy

In Rob Roy, the Scottish Highlanders and English aristocrats are portrayed in opposite manners. The Guardian wrote, "The baddies are English and queer, the goodies are Scottish and ruggedly hetero." It asserted the Scottish portrayal as American-driven and referenced a subplot where one of Rob Roy's men wants to emigrate to the United States. In addition, while the film spanned the years between 1712 and 1722, the Jacobite Risings (which took place in 1715 and 1719) go unmentioned. Historical events like the rising of the clans, the "disembarkation of the Old Pretender" (James Francis Edward Stuart), and the battles of Sheriffmuir and Glen Shiel were left out of the film.[2]

In the film, the characters Killearn (John Grahame in real life) and Cunningham steal 拢1,000 that was given to Rob Roy by Montrose as an investment. In reality, Montrose provided Rob Roy 拢1,000 yearly between 1702 and 1712, and the theft was by one of Rob Roy's men or reportedly by Rob Roy himself. The historical Rob Roy also had an anti-Whig attitude, attacking a kirk in Arngask, stealing the congregation's bibles and forcing its members to strip naked; the attack was not included in the film. In addition, Cunningham (not based on a real person) rapes Mary to provoke Rob Roy, where a legend existed that Grahame (Killearn in the film) was the rapist. Regardless, historians doubt sexual violence took place; Rob Roy captured Grahame but treated him well. Mary, who became pregnant in the film as a result of the rape, was not pregnant at the time in real life. She was only pregnant four years after the supposed rape, giving birth to Robin Og.[2]|||I don't think there was a real Archibald Cunningham.

Played it for a week, and sold it. Here is the scoop. This driver sets up open at address. About a full degree at least. This will look uncomfortable to many players, especially if you are used to the Cobra LD. The MT sounds great, nice and solid. None of that tinny sound. The ball flight was lower that one would expect for the given loft (9.5). Great release once on the fairway. This driver in a 10.5 would be great, I think. I play the Taylor Made Burner TP 9.5 and the Cobra Speed Pro 10.5. If the MT would have set up more "square" I probably would have kept it. This is the low-down. I have no "real" complaints. I believe it is a GREAT buy.

What does it mean when a name is listed under "assocated" with a Scottish clan's name?

I laso found my Maturnal Grand mother's name Black listed as Assocated with this clan, the Maclean clan. Which I'm' not directly realted to but I had several distant Maclean cousin on my biolical( maturnal) grand father side.

Does assocated mean they related to the main clan. Or are they inter related.Or just minor clans that lived on the land owned by the main clans MacGreggor-Maclean, Shaw.|||An "associated" family would be "sub-branch" or an allied or dependent family, sometimes called a "sept," although this is a borrowed Irish term. For example, as a Black or a Shaw, you would also be entitled to join a MacGregor clan association.|||That depends upon the clan you choose to belong to; for example, although I can trace my Macquarrie lineage back to the 16th century, nobody has asked for a detailed genealogy. If not, you probably won't get too much out of it, since it's so "outdated". H#ll, drivers from 5 years ago have lost a ton of value. Vintage golf equipment isn't like baseball cards or classic cars, unfortunately,|||very little market value. the market on collectors clubs which your is. is very low right now. the exception are scotty cameron putters , headcovers. 75 dollar range in very good condtion. tremendous crash. will take time to sell this time of the year. market will never return to the 90s pricing. still very good club to improve driving control at range. hard to hit flush. your swing will improve quick. good luck.|||Those were great drivers in their day and anybody who took their game seriously wanted one. But now the value for them is very low, and only people who collect vintage clubs would think want it. Save it as a trophy to the history of the game, they make nice conversation pieces. I still have mine .|||In response to green_lantern's answer, unless you can prove that someone famous used it (have the club authenticated) it doesn't matter if Jesus himself took some rips with it, it won't add to the value.

Would a Macgregor 26m be good to anchor inthe fre anchorages around Catalina Island ( loa=27', beam=7'11" ) ?

I could buy a bigger, beamier older sailboat instead of the new Macgregor but it would take up my whole weekend motoring it from Oceanside harbor to Catalina as this type of sailboat would probably only do about 6-7knots and the Mac will do about 20 in sheet, early morning summer/spring glass.Or I could trailer up the Mac to La and launch there(23 miles to Catalina as opposed to 60 from Oceanside). The Mac will run me 35k but a nice used 30-35 footer in Oceanside with slip would run @ 15-20k but also slip fees + maintenance.I just am not completely sure what to get.I also want to sail in local waters from Oceanside when I dont have a full weekend.I am new to sailing(and have a wife + two kids) and want to take guests along (other small families ) for overnights at the free Catalina anchorages.|||The way I see it, you have several issues. First, you want to sail in the Pacific Ocean. Secondly, You want this to be family oriented, including overnight, and day trips to Catalina Island, and Third, Cost of the Investment Vs. reward.......

The Pacific in the area you are talking about is in fact a Ocean, and because of safety concerns for your family, I'd go with the largest boat you can afford. A older 35 to 37 is by design safer. MacGreger build strong boats and I've sailed them for many years. I don't think you would actually be able to make 15-20 Knots consistently, with wind and wave condition changing the way that they do in that area. Trailering is a big advantage, but in my experience it was used differently by the vast number of Venture owners. They would only launch the boats a couple times a year, and leave it docked at a marina most of the season. Recovering it only for storage in the off season. In your area you are not as concerned with seasonal weather patterns, but you do have times that you might not use the boat if it's on a trailer.

I think in the long run you would use the larger boat more often, and still make the Catalina Island trips, although more like during vacation time.

I think the expense of the older boat would be off-set by holding it's value longer. You should be able to get most of your money back say five years from now. Where the depreciation on the MacGregor would be much faster for that same period.

Talk to people around marinas and you will find most boats are tied to the dock, most of the time. Yet, sailing is one of the most enjoyable things man can do. Yesterday the Inter Harbor, where I am, was busy with boats. And I saw one of those picturesque moments with the beauty and grace of a sailboat rail down, sliding through the water. As the add says, PRICELESS,

I hope this helps!|||Really do not like to give bad news , but the MacGregor 26 w/ water ballast system is a poor choice under any circumstances except maybe for a calm shallow pond.

You said new?..did not think they made them anymore.

Maybe something has changed.

They do rig up quickly, will trailer %26amp; have some room.....but.

Looked at them %26amp; have not had the "pleasure" of sailing one but they have several serious faults.

Light construction , under rigged ,fixed OB position will not allow motor to be pivoted , must be emptied to trailer (smelly), they wallow %26amp; I have never seen one sail in a straight line.

Had a smaller lighter boat that was much better behaved.

Thinking the speed mentioned is with the tanks empty

They failed to perform %26amp; were so badly built that there was a class action suit against the maker which should be public record.

Maybe they changed design but I would not trust one enough to take my family aboard esp in open water.

Would look for a more honest well cared for older boat designed for ocean sailing.

Not going into other makers but you may be able to find one that is trailerable.

Would look for advice from experienced local sailors %26amp; reputable dealers to guide you.

Sorry to burst your bubble , but I may have saved yor life....really.

Best regards

Driver assistance - MacGregor MacTec NVG2 Driver????

I just purchased the MacGregor MacTec NVG2 9.5* driver with a stiff Fujikura shaft in hopes of getting a little more distance and much more foregiveness. I am 6'4"/240lbs. and have a fast, strong swing and, when hit correctly, can drive 275-290 yards with a cheap Ram G-Force 10.5* driver. I am now having second thoughts about buying the MacTec for $80 new. I am thinking I should have gone with a Adams, TaylorMade, Nike, etc. for $150-$200. I just bought the driver on 2 days ago and have not played with it yet. Should I return it and seek a "bigger" name for twice the price? Keep in mind I regularly shoot in the high 80's to low 90's.....not a Tiger Woods!!!|||If you hit 290 with your driver and shoot 80s, maybe you should buy a better putter.|||just try out the drivers you are interested in and decide accordinaly to which one feels the best|||I have the same driver, had it for over a year now. I have learned a couple of things about this driver that is very important. First whenever my swing speed is up and going good then I can bomb this driver over 300 yds. But whenever my swing speed gets slower then I have all kinds of problems with this driver. There is no in between with this driver because of the shaft it has. I've had a Pro explain this to me because I was wondering why the driver was reacting the way it was. I love the driver whenever my swing and speed is going right but when it's not then I cannot even hit this driver. Personally I am going to buy another driver with a different shaft, probably the Ping G10.

Anyone have/had macgregor irons? what do you think of them?

i'd like to know.|||I have 4 sets of 1025M's...maybe the best club ever made. One of the last "cold-forged" clubs out there. I just bought a set of forged cavity back, MT's, no offset. getting them reshafted as we speak.

My brother and many buddies play macgreagor irons, made after 2002. Golfsmith, just bought them out and have some outstanding buys on them.

Highly reecommend!!!|||MG golf equipment has evolved into a mass market manufacturer. In the 1960's and 70's the forged blades they made were in the top three for quality of craftsmanship, design and playability. Jack Nicklaus is the most well known professional player to use MG forged blades. Greg Norman also was a staff player with MG. At that time MG was a vertically integrated manufacturer and the heads were forged in Memphis and Chicago. Some of the raw forgings were finished in Tennessee. The forged blade models VIP and Muirfield to this day are some of the best blades you can play. Their persimmmon woods were also in the top three and are still collector items world wide. Eye-O-Matic woods are probably a model you may have heard of.

The clubs MG maekets now are no where near the playability of the former ers where MG did the best work. MG irons are now made off shore and the quality of the clubs, the retained value and tradition have gone by the wayside. Very little innovation is in the new designs. The cavity back irons don't even hit my personal radar screen as top level equipment. Ping cavity irons put MG clubs way back in the ratings for several elements. MG has been bounced around for years and is now just another "brand" which falls in the assortment of clubs sold by Golf Smith. The entire line of MG branded clubs are middle of the road at best and you would be better served being properly fitted and configure you irons to include hybrids for the long irons. I play Muirfield irons once in a while and the VIP's struck center are a treat to play with when my game is right. But that's forged blades which still have the original leather wrapped grips.

I suggest you try a few other brands before you buy MG's. Years ago the forged blades were the best, now they are also rans.

Tidbit: Nicklaus always played with leather grips which included a gold trim in the wrap. MG also made balls in Elyria, Ohio.|||Years ago, I was talked into getting a set of Mac Gregor Jack Nicklaus blades after a set of Wilson Woods and Irons which I sent back via Amtrak conveniently disappeared. At the time I had a very consistent golf swing so the clubs suited my purpose . Others have tried them and found them very hard to hit consistently well.

I am thinking of purchasing a boat. Preferably the boat would be both a sailboat and a motorboat...?

I am thinking about the MacGregor 26m. Any advice or suggestions on any other boats models that will be ablet configure would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!|||One really needs to know about your desires and intended use to give a good answer. Most boat 26 feet and over will have an auxillary engine. Sailboats which may not sail the best, but are good motoring boats are often referred to as motorsailors.

Generally speaking, if you want to motor quite a bit, a diesel inboard will have advantages in many situations but comes with a higher up front initial cost.

The MacGregor 26 is an easily trailerable production boat that is not at all robust. However, if you want an affordable boat that gets you out there on the water in various protected locations, it's a boat worth considering. It's not a boat I would consider for longer term sailing or open water conditions.

I'd also recommend you take some lessons, get involved in a college club or yacht club to learn more about sailing and boating in general before purchasing a boat like this.|||A sailboat in the 26' range is almost always going to have either an inboard engine or an outboard engine. Inboard would most likely be diesel. It will usually have a larger fuel capacity and therefore a longer range when no wind is available. A motorsailer is going to have a much larger diesel engine and a very large fuel tank so that you can motor for much longer distances. It is going to be a longer boat and have much more cabin and cockpit space as well. Much more comfortable for live aboard and long range cruising. Unless you are planning on extended trips such as 1 month or longer and being hundreds of miles from fuel, the MacGregor is an excellent choice.|||A combination sailboat and motor boat is called a MOTOR SAILOR and a MacGregor is NOT a Motor Sailor... it's a sailboat with a diesel auxilliary.

You need to talk to a yacht broker because it's obvious you don't know enough about boats to keep from making a serious and expensive mistake.

so far the four macallister brothers; lochlan, ewan, braden, and sin; by kinley macgregor. i would like to know if there is going to be another book but with kieran macallister as the main subject.|||Didn't Kieran kill himself, I believe it stated that in Sin's book so it would be hard to write the story...

If your surname begins 'Mc' or 'Mac', does the rest of the name start with a capital letter?

For instance, is it Macgregor or MacGregor or does it vary? Cheers!|||It actually varies. Most of the time (today) it is seen with the first letter after Mc or Mac capitalized. And that appears to be the convention used for a long time.

But it is just convention. If the "prefix" is Mc, then you almost ALWAYS find the next letter capitalized. Because the combination of the letters "Mc" does not allow it to "fit" as a single word. However, "Mac" can easily flow into subsequent letters as a word - the example given above "Macgregor" just looks right. But "Mcgregor" doesn't.

But it is convention. In the earliest usage, the "Mc" and "Mac" were actually separated from the father's name. So the proper form would be

Donald Mac Gregor (Donald son of Gregor) and his son would be Somename Mac Donald.

Once patronymics forms of surnames were abandoned for what is now traditional family surnames, the "person" who established that surname just took his form of name (Somename Mac Donald) and made it a what is now traditional family surname form (MacDonald) and all his family and descendants from then on were MacDonalds - though few were actually "son of Donald".|||Its always a capital letter.|||yes|||Almost always with a capital:

McDonald

McLeod etc

However there are variations:

Mackay and MacKay for example

However, Macgregor is never right.|||as far as i am aware if its a big M and little c - then yes the next letter is a capital and sits next to teh little c. but when its mac it is usually Mac, then space then another capitial. i think.

my name has big M and little c and a cap. next door! and is from ireland - as i understand it they often drop the pre-fix as i think it means son of ..

hth a little!

emma x|||It's always a capital letter.. It derives from the Irish 'mac' meaning 'son of'.... They were originally separate words but over time have merged!|||Yepp..our last name is Mc then capital G, no space.|||Since the origin or Mc or Mac means 'son/daughter of..' (father's name), then there should always be a capital at the main name. I.E. John MacGregor is 'John, son of Gregor' etc...|||yes the next letter starts with a capital letter because that is the actual surname the mc or mac is like a clan name or the same as son off ,|||Usage varies. Always respect the way people spell their own names, of course.

Originally Mac Gregor would have been so spelt in English: in the original Gaelic it means Son of Gregor. Mc is just an abbreviation, and the dropping of the space, and the spelling with a small 'g' are merely indications that the name is losing touch with its Gaelic origin and is being treated like any other surname: Hardman, for example, is also now a single word.

The variations are natural and not significant.|||yes it is.

Mc and Mac are a contraction of an old Gaelic sentance meaning 'son of' which means the rest of the name is the actual surname.

For instance. MacGregor means. Son of Gregor. with the Gregor being the actual surname this would of course start with a capital letter.|||It always starts with a capital letter, but ,apparently, computers don't recognise this!! It has been pee-ing off my dad for months now!!!! We are a bunch of Mac T...s and would like to be known as such.|||Mac/Mc means son of so the name of the father or his profession is capitalized.

MacGregor= son of Gregor

McMahon= son of Mathgamhain

McTier= son of Priest

MacNeill/MacNiall = son of Niall

In olden days the father's name was capitalized but the mac was not---mac Ceinedhe = son of Kennedy|||No the rest of the name doesn't allways start with a Capital letter. My maiden name began with Mac and never continued with a capital letter. There are many names with Mac and Mc that continue without.|||There is no hard and fast rule here. It depends upon the origin of the name and the spelling that the person whose name it is prefers to use.

For instance, I work with a woman whose last name is "Mackey" and my partner's last name is "McMahan".|||Yes always with a capitol is usually the rule..|||Just make sure you get married to a MacHine, and not to a Machine ....|||Normally yes, it would be. Mac, in Gaelic, meaning 'son of' and Nic meaning 'daughter of.'

Hence I am Mac Leoid in Gaelic, and my sister (until she got married, at least) was Nic Leoid.

It does, however, vary. I've seen Macleod, MacLeod and Mac Leod written by various members of my family. Technically, there's nothing wrong with any of them.|||It can be either way.

Check out this link, it might help answer your question.

MacGregor's Achievements?

A Scottish old timer is talking to a young man in a bar.

"Lad, look out there to the field. Do ye see that fence? Look how well it's built. I built that fence stone by stone with me own two hands. Piled it for months. But do they call me MacGregor-the-Fence-Builder? Nooo..." blurts the old man.

Then the old man gestured at the bar.

"Look here at the bar. Do ye see how smooth and just it is? I planed that surface down with me own achin' back. I carved that wood with me own hard labor for eight days. But do they call me MacGregor-the-Bar-builder? Nooo..." claims the old man.

Then the old man points out the window. "Eh, Laddy, look out to sea. Do ye see that pier that stretches out as far as the eye can see? I built that pier with the sweat off me back. I nailed it board by board. But do they call me MacGregor-the-Pier-Builder? Nooo..." says the old man.

Please leave a thought here for my grandfather, Alex MacGregor VC?

Alex MacGregor VC, aged 93, of Reading, Berkshire. He has been let out of Hospice to end his days peacefully at his home with his son, me (his grandson) and my two sisters.

Alex was a road worker all his life, retiring thirteen years ago at the age of 70 and had two children, one of whom died young and was survived by my father. His wife, Daisy, died in 2001 of heart problems and he has been unconsole-able ever since.

During WW2 Alex served with the Light Infantry (rank of Lance Corporal) and earned the Victoria Cross for walking out in to enemy fire to retrieve his RSM, who had been hit by shrapnel and was unconscious. They remained close friends until the latter's death only a few months ago.

Alex is now very sick and does not have long left, and we are here to look after him and make sure he is comfortable. He is looknig forward to seeing all of his old Infantry friends again and tasting his wife's steak and kidney pie again.

He doesn't have many friends left...|||He sounds like a brave and noble man. May his passing be a peaceful one. I wish all the best to you and your family during this difficult time.

I rather like this one:

"Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life."

-John Muir

And this one as well:

"Death is more universal than life; everyone dies but not everyone lives."

Measure of a Man

by Bonnie Egbert

I've been given a gift

Just as rare as the sun

On a cold winter's morn.

I've been given a man

Who has lived his life

Guided by his principles.

Like a fortress made strong

Against fierce, unstoppable storms

He built up a wall

To teach us what's right and what's wrong.

Like the wind blows patterns

With the sea on the sand

Like a storm makes rhythms

At the water's edge,

Can you count or measure,

Hold it in your hand?

The Life he's lived,

or the Measure of a Man?

I reflect on his life,

And the battles he fought

On a dark and distant shore,

And the battles within,

Finding strength to begin--

Now he owns a hero's heart.

And the peace in his life:

The love of a wonderful wife,

Having children of his own,

Raising them in a loving home

Like the wind blows patterns

With the sea on the sand

Like a storm makes rhythms

At the water's edge,

Can you count or measure,

Hold it in your hand?

The Life he's lived,

or the Measure of a Man?

Blessings to you too - I did this with my mom in law earlier this year - it's a hard time, but can be a good time as well.|||Alex, it's obvious you have been a great guy, judging for the loving word of your grandson. Thanks for fighting for our country, it's greatly appreciated. Peace for you and strength for your loved ones, you'll be missed.|||Isaiah 49:13 Sing, heavens! Shout for joy, earth! Let the mountains burst into song! The LORD will comfort his people; He will have pity on His suffering people.

Isaiah 49:18 Look around and see what is happening! Your people are assembling---they are coming home! As surely as I am the living God, you will be proud of your people, as proud as a bride is of her jewels.

Dearest Alex -

You served along side many of my own family members in WWII - and I know the honor that is due you. You helped protect the world from a growing evil and secured freedom on our behalf in your day.

It is now that the God of all Comfort surrounds you. Your loved ones are assembled and their love is a blanket upon you. May you be richly blessed in these latter days. May you know with perfect clarity that Jesus loves you - and that He is ready to welcome you in paradise.

Your children rise up and call you blessed.

May you dwell in God's resting place forever, precious one.

Alex, you personify the noblest instincts in men: Honour, Duty and Extreme Bravery - words which have begun to disappear from the English language. God bless you for showing such courage and selflessness. You are an example to us all.

PS I can't find your grandad's name on the list of recipients. Which Light Infantry Regiment did he serve with?.|||*Thumbs up to your grand father*|||Dear Mr. Alex MacGregor,

Your wonderful grandson has asked that we send you a message of friendship. I would like to let you know that I appreciate your service to your country during World War II. My own father also served during that war. You were very brave to save the life of your friend who was hit by shrapnel and was unconscious, even at the risk to your own life. That speaks volumes about the noble and good character that you possess.

Your grandson said that you were a road worker all your life and retired 23 years ago at the age of 70. Again, this speaks highly of your character because hard work is a virtue and sadly, many people today don't possess the same caliber of work ethics to stick with a job for so many years and work so hard for so long.

I would like to let you know that while I have not lost my own spouse, I don't know how I would cope if my husband died. My heart goes out to you because I know that you miss your wife Daisy. Sounds as if you had a deep love for her and a happy marriage. May I be so blessed as you to have even half as many years with my husband as you have had with your wife.

I know that you have been discharged from your inpatient hospice care and are now spending your remaining days at the home of your son and grandchildren. What a wonderful blessing it is to be able to be reunited with your wife, while surrounded by a family who loves you. I used to work for a hospice, and my own father was a hospice patient before he died. I therefore understand the emotions and feelings that go with the process of dying. Please just take comfort in the fact that while this process may not seem fair for the moment, this life is just a stepping stone for a wonderful life that lies ahead for you. I hope that I will be privileged to live as long as you have lived. My parents were 79 %26amp; 80 when they died. 93 is a long time to live, and I believe your son and grandchildren are very blessed to have had you so long.

I believe that you must be a wonderful human being, with much to contribute in this life. I believe you have been a wonderful father and grandfather. I believe these things because only someone who deserves the kind words your grandson wrote about you in his question on Yahoo Answers, would have had those words spoken about him. Your grandson clearly loves you dearly and thinks the world of you. Those feelings do not come because someone has not earned the right to evoke those feelings in others. Those feelings come because someone has lived a life in such a way that those who are a part of that person's life have such a deep appreciation, love and respect for that person, that they cannot help but to want to do something nice for that person.

You are truly loved and undoubtedly will be sorely missed when you leave this life. My prayer will be that you will have a peaceful passing, with your family by your side, and you will have joyous reunion with your dear wife. Although I don't know you, I want to thank you for your service to your country. You have made a positive impact on the generations that have followed your own because of your contributions.

May God bless you and may you feel His love and presence during this time. As for me, I would like to offer you my friendship, my thoughts and my prayers. You are cared for and loved.

Sincerely,

Cari|||Thanks for fighting for us Alex.|||Whilst wishing Mr MacGregor every good fortune for his future, I would point out that his name does NOT appear on the published list of recipients of this medal.|||Good night Alex.
